| Craftsman is ultimate recycler Sun, 29 Jun 2008 23:30:00 -0400 Name: Jeff Cook Title: Craftsman Age: 49 Salary range: $40,000-$70,000. "I do a lot of bartering, so it's hard to tell," Cook said. What he does: Cook designs and constructs functional and beautiful home decor from wine barrels. With the help of his wife, Debbie Cook, he produces about 30 different products, such as chairs, tables, wine racks, plates, bowls and pot rests. The couple sell their wares throughout the Southeast at arts and crafts shows as well as in several retail stores. Cook uses every piece of each recycled wine barrel, even the nails. The bands are bent into moons, stars, angels and other decorations for porches and decks, and the scraps of wood, all of them flavored by the wine they held, are recycled into smoking and grilling chips. |

| Georgia to regulate contractors starting Tuesday Sun, 29 Jun 2008 23:30:00 -0400 ATLANTA - "It'll be done in two weeks." Anyone who's dealt with a contractor who plays fast and loose with deadlines, or is familiar with the depths of residential contracting as portrayed in the film "The Money Pit," knows that phrase is a death knell for getting a home improvement job done. People who've heard it have probably even wished contractors were held to some type of standards. They'll soon get their wish. Starting Tuesday, residential and general contractors in Georgia will fall under the purview of the state's Professional Licensing Boards Division, which has laid out minimum standards of practice, and accompanying penalties for violators, in an industry that receives a fair share of the consumer complaints lodged in the state. Georgia will join roughly 30 other states that license such contractors. |
