| Tybee doctor wins deportation decision Tue, 13 May 2008 23:30:00 -0400 Former Tybee Island doctor Owen O'Shaughnessy has won an initial victory in his effort to avoid being deported to Ireland, but his attorney said the U.S. government will appeal. On Monday, O'Shaughnessy, a native of Ireland, fought to stay in the U.S. before an immigration judge in Atlanta. "He was granted relief from removal," said his attorney, Marshall Cohen of Atlanta. Immigration agents detained O'Shaughnessy in March because he pleaded guilty to felony possession of marijuana in December. Cohen would not talk about the details of the argument before the judge because he didn't have permission from O'Shaughnessy. But the former doctor is still in custody. "If the government appeals, he's eligible to ask for a bond," Cohen said. "And they will appeal." |
